Preventative Medicine in Bellaire
Keeping Your Pets Happy & Healthy
Preventative medicine is simple: we strive to prevent disease before it strikes. It’s a simple enough principle to understand – it’s often much easier to prevent illness than to try to cure a disease. For the pet patients of Southwest Animal Clinic, this philosophy translates to a multifaceted approach to your pet’s healthcare.
We believe that regular wellness exams by our Bellaire veterinary team is the first step in a preventative medicine program for your pet. When we see your pet regularly, we get to know them on a much deeper level than if we were to see your pet once a year, or even less. We’ll be able to identify changes in their behavior or personality on top of noting any changes we see in your pet’s physical exams and lab work. This helps us get your pet treatment faster, limiting the impact of any disease or illness on your pet’s longevity and quality of life.
If it’s been awhile since your pet last saw us, give us a call at (713) 903-8818 or request an appointment online to get your pet back on track to good health.
Preventative Care for Your Pet
When we get to know your pet through physical exams and speaking with you, we’ll be able to get a clear picture of what your pet needs to keep them happy and healthy for years to come. We’ll make recommendations for ongoing care based off of your pet’s specific needs, not a generalized plan that may not suit your pet.
We take into account the following factors before we make recommendations for your pet’s ongoing care:
- Activity level
- Preexisting conditions
The above characteristics each factor into the recommendations that our Bellaire veterinary team will make for your pet’s health and wellbeing. Some breeds of pets have risk factors for certain kinds of degenerative diseases, for example, or senior pets need different kinds of treatment in order to live out their golden years as comfortably as possible.
When you bring your pet in for a wellness exam, we’ll examine your pet from nose to tail and ask you questions about their mood, behavior, and lifestyle. We will also order some basic laboratory tests, like bloodwork or urinalysis, in order to get a better look at your pet’s overall health. With all this information in hand, our Bellaire veterinary team can make specific recommendations based on your pet’s unique characteristics so that they can live a long, healthy life.
It’s important that you bring us your questions or concerns about your pet’s health. You know your pet best – trust your instinct! If you suspect that something about your pet’s health isn’t right or could be improved, please don’t hesitate to speak to our veterinary team. We’ll work by your side to ensure that your pet gets the healthcare they need to thrive.
